Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was started in the center on May 8, 2024 from 12:50 PM until 4:25 PM and concluded on May 8, 2024. At the time of entrance, 96 children were in care with 16 staff members. The sample size consisted of 10 children?s records and 10 staff records. Children were observed during nap time, preparing for snack and playing outside.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure that fans or other cooling systems shall be used when the temperature of inside areas occupied by children exceeds 80?F.

Evidence: During the inspection the thermostat in the ?Busy Bees? classroom, (children age range, 16 months to 24 months), was observed and it increased from 80.4 F. to 81.1 F. and there was not a fan or cooling system in the room.

Based on center documentation review and staff interview the licensee did not ensure to develop written procedures for injury prevention

Standard 8VAC20-780-80-A
Based on documentation review and provider interview the licensee did not ensure that for each group of children, the center shall maintain a written record of daily attendance that documents the arrival and departure of each child in care as it occurs.

Evidence: The ?Hummingbird ?classroom had 9 children on the roll and only 8 observed in the classroom. Center staff confirmed the 9th child had left the classroom and their departure had not been marked on the attendance list.
