Inspector Notes
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, and interviews.
An unannounced complaint inspection was conducted to investigate an allegation received by the department related to a Forbidden Action. The inspection was initiated on 9/22/2021 and concluded on 9/29/2021 with an exit interview. Staff were contacted by telephone, interviews were conducted and documentation was reviewed. The evidence gathered during the inspection supported the allegation of non-compliance with one standard or law and the violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 22VAC40-185-410-6
Based on multiple interviews, and a review of documentation, it was determined that staff used a forbidden action - verbal remarks demeaning to a child. Evidence: On 9/8/2021, between approximately 9:00 am - 12:00 noon, 1) staff #1 told toddlers to "shut up" multiple times when they were sitting in the feeding table fussing while waiting for snack; 2) staff #1 stated they didn't like to be near child #1 and called them "ugly", "dobby", "weird" and elf boy"; 3) staff #2 called child #1 "disgusting"
Plan of Correction: Staff involved were written up. All staff are being retrained on acceptable language and monitored.
