Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was initiated on January 18, 2023 and concluded on January 18, 2023. There were 57 children present, ranging in ages from 4 months to age 5 years, with 14 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, special care and emergencies and background check.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-500-A
Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure handwashing with soap and running water occurred after toileting and any contact with blood feces or urine as required.

Evidence: Staff # 1 was observed conducting a diaper change for child #1 and child #2 and neither the staff nor the children washed their after the after the diaper change.
Plan of Correction: Retrain staff on diaper changing and hand washing

Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure the diapering surface was cleaned with soap and at least room temperature water and sanitized after each use.

Evidence: Staff #1 was observed conducting diaper changes and the diaper pad was not sanitized between diaper changes. Staff #1 used disinfectant wipes between diaper changes. The diaper pad is required to be sprayed with a disinfectant /sanitizing solution and allowed to air dry or wiped down after two minutes. The diaper pad was also not cleaned with a soap and water solution as required.
