Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using a hybrid protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.

A monitoring inspection was conducted on April 4, 2022. There were 51 children present, ranging in ages from 3 months to 7 years, with 13 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, special care and emergencies, and medications. A total of 4 children's records and 4 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and the violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-160-A-1
Based on review of staff records and verification from the director, one staff member did not obtain a negative tuberculosis (TB) screening at the time of employment and prior to coming in contact with children.

Evidence:
1. The record for Staff Member #1 contained a negative TB screening dated 02/07/2022. Date of hire and date of coming in contact with children was 01/13/2022.
2. The director verified the TB screening was after the date of hire and after coming in contact with children.
Plan of Correction: In the future, TB screenings will be obtained for new staff at the time of hire and before coming in contact with children.
Standard 8VAC20-780-240-A
Based on review of staff records and discussion with the director, one staff member had not taken the 10-hour Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) sponsored orientation course.

Evidence:
1. The record for Staff Member #4 did not contain documentation that she had taken the 10-hour VDOE pre-service orientation training course. Date of hire was 12/09/2021.
2. The director was aware and confirmed that the staff member had not taken the course.
Plan of Correction: We intend to file an allowable variance request. After careful consideration and review of the preservice training course we have determined that it is unnecessary, inappropriate, and distracting for new team members to complete the course. We have a detailed AV request prepared to file as soon as possible.
