Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today.
There were 9 children present (25 points) with 4 caregivers.
7 caregiver/resident and 9 child records were reviewed. See violation notice for non-compliances cited.

Children were observed playing with a variety of toys, preparing to go to sleep, and playing outside.
Bathroom supplies, diapering supplies, first aid/CPR certifications, first aid kit, emergency supplies, and the fridge/freezer temperatures were all in compliance today.

Evidence:
Child #9's record was dated 8/31/22 (not updated annually).

Based on a review of records, one child record did not contain documentation of all required information.
Evidence:
Child #4's record was missing:
First date of attendance, both parent's name, address and phone number and work information, 2 emergency contact's name, address and phone number, allergy information, authorization for emergency medical treatment.
Plan of Correction: I will ask the parent to return the enrollment form with all of the missing information.

Based on a review of medications, one medication present at the family day home was not maintained in the original, labeled container.
Evidence:
Child #8's prescription medication is not in the original box with a prescription label attached.
Plan of Correction: I will ask the parent to provide the box with the prescription label attached.
Standard 8VAC20-800-900-B
Based on observation, children were allowed to drink while walking, and lying down.
Evidence:
2 children were observed in the basement daycare area walking around with bottles.
(Children # 2,3)
2 children were observed in the upstairs daycare area lying down in cribs with bottles.
(Children #4, 7).
Plan of Correction: Staff were reminded during the inspection that children may not lay down with bottles and that children need to sit down while drinking.
