Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on March 28, 2023 from 12:10pm to approximately 1:45pm. There were 28 children and 6 staff members present. The Inspector reviewed six children?s records and three staff records. The Inspector observed the interaction of staff and children throughout the inspection. Children just finished their lunches and were observed during naptime. First aid kits and emergency preparedness documents were observed. Transportation is not provided at the center. Medication was observed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. The violations were discussed with the owner at the exit interview.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
1. In the 3 year old classroom, there are torn and damaged venetian blinds which are in reach of children. This poses as an injury hazard to the children.
2. In the school age classroom, the children?s table is damaged with two areas (approximately 1-2 inches) that have exposed chipping wood.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff #1 will replace the venetian blinds and repair the table to ensure that the equipment is safe and operable for the children in care.
Standard 8VAC20-780-60-A
Based on record review and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that for each child enrolled the work phone number and place of employment of each parent who has custody shall be listed in the record.
Evidence:
1. Child #1 (date of enrollment 8/16/2022) did not have the father?s work phone number listed.
2. Staff #1 confirmed that Child #1 did not have the father?s work phone number listed to the record.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff #1 will obtain father?s work phone number for Child #1 at pick up.
