Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on January 3, 2023. There were 85 children present with 12 staff supervising. The physical plant, menu's, attendance logs, evacuation drill logs, first aid kit, flashlights and radios, children's records, bottles and cribs and the emergency preparedness procedures were reviewed. There were no medications on site. Areas of non-compliance were cited on the violation notice. The children were observed engaging in a variety of educational activities, including alphabet recognition, number recognition and singing and reading stories. Based on a review of staff records, the center failed to obtain at least every two years from the date of the initial screening or testing the results of a follow-up tuberculosis screening.

Based on a review of staff records, the center failed to ensure that staff shall complete annually a minimum of 16 hours of training appropriate to the age of children in care.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that areas and equipment inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Unsafe conditions shall include but not be limited to, splintered, cracked or otherwise deteriorating wood, chipped or peeling paint, visible cracks, bending or warping, rusting or breakage of any equipment, head entrapment hazards, and protruding nails, bolts or other components that could entangle clothing or snag skin.

Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that electrical outlets shall have protective covers that are of a size that cannot be swallowed by children.
