Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A subsidy health and safety inspection was initiated on 05/13/2021 and concluded on 05/18/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 19 children present and four staff. A licensing inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection. Both inspections combined cover subsidy health and safety regulations. Only subsidy regulations that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection.

The information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with subsidy regulations, and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

Based on a review of records and interview, the vendor did not ensure two staff members who work directly with children and were hired prior to March 1, 2019 had completed the department's health and safety update course by the required deadline.

Evidence: 1) The record for Staff #1, hired on 09/17/18, had a completed Virginia Health and Safety Update Training for Child Care Staff that was dated 09/17/2020.

2) The record for Staff #2, hired on 08/23/16, had a completed Virginia Health and Safety Update Training for Child Care Staff that was dated 10/06/2020.

3) During interview, a member of management reported the required training was not completed timely. The required training for Subsidy Vendors and staff hired prior to March 1, 2019, was due no later than March 1, 2020.
