Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

An unannounced renewal inspection was initiated on March 10, 2021 and concluded on March 24, 2021. A virtual walk through of the facility and classrooms was conducted using video conferencing. There were 24 children ages 6 months through 5 years of age under the care and supervision of 7 staff. Lunch today was cheese toast, pears, mixed vegetables and milk. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed five records and five staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Emergency drills were up to date, emergency supplies including a first aid kit, battery operated radio and flashlight were present and the monthly menu was reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Based on review of documentation and interview, it was determined that the center did not request out of state central registry background checks within 30 days of employment for staff that resided outside of Virginia in the last 5 years and out of state criminal history and sex offender registry checks. Evidence: Staff #1, hired 9/28/2020, indidicated out of state residence in the last five years in California and Texas on the Sworn Statement and did not have documentation of a child protective services background check, out of state sex offender registry check request and out of state criminal history name search for either state. Staff #2, hired 12/16/20, indicated out of state residence in Michigan on the Sworn Statement and did not have documentation of an out of state central registry background check sex offender registry check and out of state criminal name search for Michigan.
