Inspector Notes

An unannounced Monitoring inspection was conducted today. A total of 86 children with 16 staff were present. 8 classrooms were operational today. Observation of all 8 classrooms were made. Walls, bulletin boards and several other areas of the programming space was decorated with artwork, crafts and projects completed by the children. 3 Spanish immersion classes were observed in circle time listening to staff speaking Spanish and answering in Spanish. "Trace the Leaf" and a walking field trip to find leaves was in progress. Smooth transitions were observed between classrooms, going outside, lining up to wash hands and moving to the library room where a parent volunteer was observed reading to the children. Some medication onsite, no topical ointment needs at this time. Inspection of the newly installed playground was completed. A total of 8 children's records and 5 new staff records were reviewed. Based on staff record review, one out of state background check was not completed.
Evidence:
Staff #4 has lived outside of the state of Virginia. An out of state Criminal Record search was not completed prior to hire and has not been requested to date.
Plan of Correction: We will request an out of state criminal record search on this staff. We will forward the request and results once received to the Licensing Inspector for review.
Standard 8VAC20-780-380-A-2
Based on staff statements, a designated sleep period is not provided for preschoolers.
Evidence:
Staff stated that not all children who are under the age of 5 years are provided a sleep period.
Plan of Correction: We will provide a sleep period of at least 30 minutes for all children under the age of 5years. After 30 minutes, if children are not sleeping, they will be offered quiet activities.

Evidence:
