Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 8/24/2022 from 10:00am-11:44am. There were 68 children (infants-5yrs.) supervised by 10 direct care staff. The physical plant, 5 staff records, 5 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, reading books, singing, circle time, and writing. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice. Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside were not maintained in a safe and operable condition.

Evidence: In the Infant classroom, 2 crib sheets were not tightly fitted around the crib mattress to ensure safe sleep practices.
Plan of Correction: I will email the parents today about the fitted sheet.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:

1. In the Primary classroom, a bottle of disinfectant spray, air freshener, and insect repellant was located on top of a cabinet, but not locked.

2. In the Pre-K classroom, air freshener and insect repellant were located on top of a cubby next to the classroom door, but not locked.
Plan of Correction: Corrected during the inspection.

Based on observation, not all of the food containers brought from home were clearly dated and labeled in a way that identifies the owner.

Evidence: 8 of 8 food containers brought from home were missing the date.
Plan of Correction: I will tell the teachers to add the dates.

Based on observation and staff interview, infant bottles were not dated.

Evidence: In the Infant classroom, 5 of 5 infant bottles located in the refrigerator were not dated.
