Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 7/24/23. The center had 31 children present with 9 staff. The children were observed playing games and then splitting in to three "cabins" for the week. Arts, sports and performing arts. The children were going bowling in the afternoon. Observed gym play, dancing and designing t-shirts, Lots of interaction between staff and children. Discussed making some paperwork easily accessible to staff. A violation notice was given to the center at the time of the inspection.

Based on the review of 5 files, the center failed to get a physical for some of the children.
Evidence: Child 2, Child 3 and child 5 are missing the physical examination,
Plan of Correction: We will ask the parents for a copy of the physicals

Based on the review of the emergency drills the center failed to conduct shelter in place drills in the last year.
Evidence: There are no shelter in place drills recorded on the emergency drill sheet.
Plan of Correction: We will conduct drills during the summer camp
Standard 8VAC20-780-550-F
Based on the review of the emergency drill paperwork, the center failed to conduct a lock down drill.
Evidence: A lockdown drill is not recorded on the emergency drill log,
Plan of Correction: We will make sure we conduct a lock down drill during summer camp.
Standard 8VAC20-780-60-A
Based on the review of 5 children's files, the center failed to have a record for each child present.
Evidence: One child, child 3, does not have any paperwork at the site.
Plan of Correction: The mother was in a hurry this morning and I gave her the enrollment package to complete. The sister is in care so we do have contact information. I will let her know I need the completed form back at pick up.
