Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was conducted today between 10:15am and 11:45am. There were 55 children present, with 12 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. The children were observed playing outside, participating in music class, and playing with blocks. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Based on observation, areas of the center were not maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition.

Evidence:
An area of peeling paint was located outside of the children?s bathroom area.
Plan of Correction: We will fix the paint so it is not peeling.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place that prevents access by children.

Evidence:
Dish soap labeled ?keep out of reach of children? was accessible to children in the older infant classroom.
Plan of Correction: All hazardous substances will be kept in a locked place.
Standard 8VAC20-780-520-A
Based on observation, over-the-counter skin products were kept beyond the expiration date of the product.

Evidence:
An expired diaper cream was located in the older toddler classroom. Diaper cream expired 3/2024.
Plan of Correction: All over-the-counter skin products will not be kept past their expiration.

Based on observation, the center did not maintain documentation of emergency evacuation that included the required information.

Evidence:
An emergency drill log reviewed at the center did not include the number of staff participating, the number of children participating, problems encountered, and weather conditions as necessary.
Plan of Correction: The emergency drill log will be updated with all of the required information.

Based on observation, the center did not follow age-appropriate nutritional requirements of the USDA.

Evidence:
The posted menu did not include a fruit option for lunches.
Plan of Correction: The fruit option will be added to the menu.

Based on observation, a protective belt was not fastened securely when a child was placed in a high chair.

Evidence:
A child was sitting a table in the older infant classroom and was not securely fastened with the protective belt.
Plan of Correction: Teachers will be retrained to properly secure infants in the seats.
