Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 02/27/2023. There were 33 children, ages 2 years-5 years, and 8 staff members present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, staff qualifications and trainings, staffing and supervision, physical plant, programs, emergencies and nutrition. The children were observed during learning time, free choice activities, arts and crafts, hand washing and lunch. A total of 5 children?s records and 5 staff records were reviewed. The inspector discussed children?s allergies with the staff. The inspector arrived to the center at 9:00 am and departed at 11:30 am.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.

Based on document review, the center failed to ensure that shelter-in-place procedures shall be practiced a minimum of twice per year.

Evidence: The shelter-in-place procedures were only practiced once in 2022.
Plan of Correction: Will do shelter in place drills twice a year.
Standard 8VAC20-780-80-A
Based on document review, the center failed to ensure that for each group of children, the center shall maintain a written record of daily attendance that documents the arrival and departure of each child in care as it occurs.

Evidence: The attendance record in the 2 ?-3 year old class and the 3 ?- 4 year old class did contain the documentation of the departure of each child as it occurred on 02/24/2023. There were numerous other dates that did not contain the documentation of departure of each child as it occurred.
Plan of Correction: Will document the arrival and departure of each child.
