Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A focused inspection was initiated on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 and concluded on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 16 children present and 5 staff. The inspector emailed the director/provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 4 children?s records and 4 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility. The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs. Based on review of the staff record and interview with staff, the center did not ensure to obtain documentation that two or more references as to character and reputation were checked before employment or volunteering.

Evidence: In Staff#1's record (date of hire: 08/25/20), the documentation for two references were dated on 08/26/20. Interview with staff confirmed Staff#'s1 date of hire documented during this inspection.
Plan of Correction: Moving forward, I will make sure that the references are checked before the start of employment.
