Violations

1
Standard 8VAC20-780-510-P
Based upon review of the medications stored for administration to children in care and staff interview, the facility has not ensured that when medication expires it is returned to the parent within 14 days or disposed of by the facility.
Evidence:
1.There was an epipen stored for emergency administration to child 2. The epipen expired on 5/20/2021.
2. Staff 4 confirmed that the epipen for child 2 was expired.
Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following:
The epipen will be returned to the parent. Emergency procedures will be developed with the parent until the epipen prescription can be renewed.
Our medication procedures will be followed to ensure that the expiration dates on medications are routinely checked. Parents will be notified prior to the expiration of the medication so that refills can be obtained and brought to the facility.
