Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews, and a virtual tour of the program.

A renewal inspection was initiated on 12/1/2021 and concluded on 12/2/2021. The provider was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 6 children present (21points), ranging in ages from 5months to 3years, with the provider and 2 assistant caregiver staff supervising. The Inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, special care and emergencies, and nutrition. A total of 2 children's records and 3 caregiver/household member records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations

3
Standard 22VAC40-111-280
Based on virtual observations, it was determined that one potentially hazardous substance is not stored in an area completely inaccessible to children.
Evidence:
The Inspector observed the spray bottle of bleach/water sanitizing solution stored next to the diaper changing table. The spray bottle was at the same level of the changing table. The placement of the spray bottle was not completely out of the reach of children.
Plan of Correction: I will install a shelf on the wall to store the bleach/water and the soap/water spray bottles.
Standard 22VAC40-111-330-A
Based on virtual observations and provider interviews, it was determined that a landline telephone, excluding a cordless or cell phone, is not available, operable, and accessible during the family day home's hours of operation.
Evidence:
The provider reported that she does not have landline telephone service in the home.
Plan of Correction: I got rid of the landline service but I will reconnect it.
Standard 22VAC40-111-690-D
Based on virtual observations and provider interviews, it was determined that the diaper changing surface is not properly cleaned and sanitized after each use.
Evidence:
The provider reported that she only uses a bleach/water solution to sanitize the diaper changing table in between uses. The provider does not use a soap/water solution to also clean the changing table in between uses.
Plan of Correction: I will begin using a soap/water mixture in addition to the bleach/water mixture.
