Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A subsidy health and safety inspection was initiated on May 27,2021 and concluded on June 3, 2021. The center owner and director were contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 16 children present and 3 staff. A licensing inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection. Both inspections combined cover subsidy health and safety regulations. Only subsidy regulations that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. The information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with subsidy regulations, and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

Based on observation and staff interviews, the vendor did not ensure to maintain, in a way that is accessible to all staff who work with children, a current written list of all children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions. This list shall be dated and kept confidential in each room or area where children are present.
Evidence: A list of children's allergies, sensitivities and preferences was posted in both of the center's classroom.
Plan of Correction: Posted list was made confidential during inspection.

Based on record review and staff interviews, the licnesee did not ensure that all staff who work directly with children must complete CPR and first aid training.
Evidence: The record for Staff #1 (date of hire 7-13-2017) did not include documentation for first aid certification. Center owner confirmed Staff #1 had not received certification in first aid.
Plan of Correction: A group CPR & First Aid training is scheduled for 6/10/2021.
