Inspector Notes

An unannounced annual inspection was conducted today.
There was one child present (3 points) with one caregiver.

The child was observed getting up from rest time, playing with toys and having snack.

One child, one dog, one caregiver and 4 resident records were reviewed.

Based on a review of a child record, the child record does not contain all required information.
Evidence:
Child #1's record did not contain written authorization to administer a non-prescription medication (vitamins).
Plan of Correction: The "Sick Policy" form will be updated for all records, to state I will administer prescription and non-prescription medications.
Standard 8VAC20-790-400-A-1
Based on a review of the provider's written medication policy, the policy states that the provider will not administer prescription or non-prescription medications.
Evidence:
The provider has administered a non-prescription medication to Child #1.
Plan of Correction: I will have the parent complete a medication authorization form for the non-prescription medication.

Based on a review of documentation, a record of non-prescription medication administered to a child, has not been maintained.
Evidence:
There was no record of a non-prescription medication being administered to Child #1.
The non-prescription medication has been administered daily.
Plan of Correction: I will write down when I administer medications on a medication log.
