Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was conducted on October 12, 2022 from 5pm to approximately 6:15pm. There were 19 children present and three staff members. The Inspector reviewed five children?s records and three staff records. The Inspector observed the interaction of staff and children throughout the inspection. Children were observed during group time and free play prior to being picked up by their parents. First aid kits and emergency preparedness documents were observed. Medications were observed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the program. The violation was discussed during the exit interview with the site director.

Based on record review and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that background checks be completed every five years.
Evidence:
1. Staff #1 (date of hire 7/14/17) has background checks and the central registry for Virginia last dated August 2017, which is outside of the 5 year timeframe.
1. Staff #1 confirmed that their background checks and central registry for Virginia has not been completed after 5 years from the initial background checks.
The center responded with the following: Staff #1 will complete their 5 year repeat checks and place them to the staff record.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The background checks and central registry checks will be completed within 10 business days, sent to the inspector, and placed in the staff record when completed.
