Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on May 13, 2021 and concluded on May 14, 202. The owner was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 19 children present and 10 staff. The inspector emailed the owner a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 2 children?s records and 2 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Standard 22VAC40-185-500-B
Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure that disposable diapers were disposed of in a leakproof or plastic-lined storage system that is either foot operated or used in such a way that neither the staff member's hand nor the soiled diaper touches an exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.

Evidence: During observation of the diaper changing process in the infant room, a staff member was observed opening the lid to trash can with their hands to dispose of a soiled diaper. Center staff confirmed the trashcan was broken.
Plan of Correction: Program owner will replace trash can.
Standard 22VAC40-185-550-D
Based on documentation review the center shall implement a monthly practice evacuation drill and a a minimum of two shelter-in-place practice drills per year for the most likely to occur scenarios.

Evidence: The documentation available for review did not have an evacuation drill conducted for February 2021 and only one shelter-in-place drill conducted for 2020.
Plan of Correction: Program owner and directors will ensue that an all required evacuation drills and shelter in place drills will be conducted on time.
