Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 2:45 - 3:30pm with the provider. There were five children present, ranging from two to three years of age, for a total of ten points. Children were observed napping, waking, and eating snack, which consisted of: grapes and saltine crackers. Five child records, one provider record, the emergency drill log, written daily attendance, menu, and the required posted information were reviewed. It was reported that there were no medications on site, and the provider does not have current certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT) so cannot administer medication to children in care. Based on observation, it was determined that not all handwashing procedures were followed, as required. Evidence: A child was observed having a diaper change, and the child?s hands were not washed afterwards.
Plan of Correction: Will wash children's hands after diapering.
Standard 8VAC20-800-690-D
Based on observation, the provider failed to ensure that the diapering surface was non absorbent and washable. Evidence: the changing pad had cracks and tears in it making it absorbent.
Plan of Correction: Will purchase a new diaper pad.
