Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. The inspection began at 10:30 AM and concluded at 12:51 PM. The center's assistant director assisted the inspector throughout the inspection. The census for today's inspection consisted of 160 children in care and 24 staff supervising. During the tour, the inspector observed the children coloring, playing with blocks, participating in a science activity, playing on the playground, tummy time, eating lunch, and interacting with peers and staff. The inspector observed all 12 classrooms, playgrounds buses, and restrooms. Staff was observed interacting with children in a positive manner and the inspector interviewed staff and children when time allowed. The classrooms are equipped with age and stage-appropriate materials. The center's first aid kit and non-medical emergency supplies were inspected and found complete. The required postings were inspected and found to be in compliance. Liability insurance, health inspection, and drills were all in compliance. There were five children's and five staff records reviewed. There were violations cited during this inspection.

Based on a review of documentation and interview, it was determined that the facility did not ensure that the annual approval from the health department is provided. Evidence: 1. The most recent annual health inspection available for viewing during the inspection was dated 10/5/2020. 2. The director confirmed that the center has not had a health inspection due to the change in management and COVID.
Plan of Correction: The director contacted the health inspector?s office to schedule an appointment.
Standard 8VAC20-780-440-G
Based on observation the center failed to ensure that cribs are used for children under 12 months of age and for children over 12 months of age who are not developmentally ready to sleep on a cot or mat. Evidence: 1 - Child 1 was observed sleeping on mat during the inspection. However, child 1 is 11 months old and therefore should be sleeping in a crib.
Plan of Correction: The director will move all infants under 12 months to a crib.
