Inspector Notes

A renewal inspection was conducted on July 17, 2023, from 11:20am to approximately 1pm. There were 38 children present and 9 staff members. The Inspector reviewed 7 children?s records and 5 staff records. The Inspector observed staff and children?s interactions throughout the inspection. Children were observed during lunch, handwashing, toileting, group and nap. Medications were observed. The transportation van was observed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented. The violations are listed on the violation notice issued to the center and were reviewed with the owner at the exit interview.

Standard 8VAC20-780-440-E
Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that there shall be at least 12 inches of space between occupied cots, beds, and rest mats.
Evidence:
1. In the preschool classroom, the children?s rest mats and cots were occupied and not 12 inches apart in space during naptime.
2. In the 2 and 3 year old classroom, the children?s rest mats were side by side and not 12 inches apart in space during naptime.
3. Staff in both classrooms confirmed that the cots and rest mats were not 12 inches of space between when occupied.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The cots and rest mats were adjusted to during the time of the inspection. Moving forward all staff will ensure that there is 12 inches of space between rest mats when occupied.
Standard 8VAC20-780-560-M
Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that no child shall be allowed to drink or eat while walking around.
Evidence:
1. In the 2 and 3 year old classroom, there were two children observed to stand and walk while eating.
2. Staff confirmed that the children were not sitting and were standing and walking to wash their hands while still eating.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The Director will ensure that all staff members are aware of this standard and will make sure that the 2 and 3 year old teachers will redirect the children to sit down when eating.
