Inspector Notes

Today an unannounced monitoring inspection took place between the hours of 9:40am and 11:20am. There were 4 classrooms observed with a total of 62 children with 12 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed playing outside, washing hands, singing songs and eating a morning snack (graham crackers, yogurt and blueberries). A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, medication and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. There was an abundant supply of materials for the children. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in MAT, CPR and First Aid, as well as DHO training. Staff-to-child ratios were in compliance. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the Violation Notice.

Thank you for your cooperation during the inspection. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at whitney.mcgrath@doe.virginia.gov.

Violations

2
Standard 8VAC20-780-160-A
Based on record review, each staff member did not submit documentation of a negative tuberculosis (TB) screening that had been completed within 30 days prior to the first date of employment.
Evidence: Staff #2 (date of hire: 3/18/2024) TB screening is dated 1/15/2024.
Plan of Correction: I'll make a note on my new employee onboarding list to double check that TB screenings are not more than 30 days old.
Standard 8VAC20-780-520-A
Based on observation, over-the-counter skin products were kept beyond the expiration date of the product.
Evidence: Child #6s sunscreen had expired 4/2024.
Plan of Correction: The sunscreen will be sent home today. I'll come up with a system for keeping track of expiration dates.
