Inspector Notes

A Renewal inspection was conducted today. A total of 61 children with 13 staff were present. Observation of all 5 classrooms was made. Children were observed eating lunch in the Tiny Tots classroom. Staff were observed sitting with the children and assisting them with eating. Some classes were observed transitioning to the outside playground. Artwork was on display in the hallways such as Japanese cherry tree lanterns and cherry blossom trees. In one primary class children were gathered on the carpet discussing geography with the lead teacher. Class work such as cursive writing exercises were laid out to complete later in the day. Some medication onsite, all were reviewed. A total of 5 staff records and 3 children's records were reviewed. This inspection occurred between 11am and 1pm. Thank you for your cooperation today. Based on staff record review, background checks for 2 staff were not obtained.
Evidence:
An out of state Central Registry search was not obtained for Staff #1 and #2.
Plan of Correction: A follow up for these background checks will be made. The requests and results will be forwarded to the Licensing Inspector for review within 10 working days.
Standard 8VAC20-780-245-J-3
Based on review of medication, one child with an emergency medication was not in the care of a staff member with required training.
Evidence:
1. Child #4 has an emergency medication, Auvi Q that requires an additional medication training course to administer the medication.
2. Staff has not completed the additional Auvi Q medication administration course.
Plan of Correction: Staff will complete the additional 3 hour online course for this medication.

Based on child record review, a written care plan for a child with a diagnosed food allergy did not include instructions from a physician.
Evidence:
Child #4 has a diagnosed food allergy. The written care plan was not completed by a physician.
Plan of Correction: The allergy action plan will be sent to the doctor to sign.
