Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.
A renewal inspection was initiated and concluded on 8/30/21. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 24 children present, ranging in ages from infants to 2 years old, with 7 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 2 child records and 4 staff records were reviewed. Children were observed eating lunch, sleeping in cribs and playing with toys. The outdoor playground was also assessed. There were no medications on site. Children's art was displayed throughout the center.

Standard 22VAC40-185-260-A
Based on records review, the center did not have an annual fire inspection.
Evidence: The most recent fire inspection conducted at the center was dated 1/28/20.
Plan of Correction: A fire inspection was conducted on 8/31/21.
Standard 22VAC40-185-500-B
Based on observation, the center did not have a foot operated diaper disposal system for the disposal of dirty diapers.
Evidence:
1. In the two's classroom, a foot operated system was not being used to dispose off dirty diapers.
2. The classroom's trash can located by the sink and diaper changing station was being used for this purpose.
Plan of Correction: A foot operated system will be used.

Based on records review, the center did not obtain results of out of state central registry searches for employees within 45 days of employment.
Evidence:
1. Staff # 1 was hired on 4/20/21, and Staff # 1's record indicated that she lived in Maryland in the last 5 years.
2. The Maryland central registry form was submitted but results were not obtained within 45 days of employment from the agency. There were no results available for review during the inspection.
3. Staff # 2 was hired on 2/26/21, and Staff # 2's record indicated that she lived in Maryland in the last 5 years.
4. Results of the central registry search for Staff # 2 within 45 days of employment, and were not available for review during the inspection.
Plan of Correction: Both background checks will be repeated and a follow up will be conducted with the licensing inspector in ten days.
