Inspector Notes

An unannounced ed renewal inspection was conducted today from 10:55 am to 1:15 pm. There were 42 children in the direct care and supervision of 8 staff members. The children were observed eating lunch, getting diapered and transitioning inside from the playground. The lunch menu included pasta with meat sauce, salad and fruit with milk. 4 staff records, 3 children's records, medications and emergency drill records were reviewed. The center continues to use the ratio waiver variance that it was granted by the department until 6/30/23.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. For any questions regarding this inspection, please contact me at mahrukh.aziz@doe.virginia.gov or 571-835-4718.

Violations

1
Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observations, areas inside the center were not maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
1. The area rugs in the young toddler room were not clean, and had stains, crumbs and visible dirt over them.
2. Peeling paint was found in the following rooms: a. Young Toddlers: on the wall by the trash can in the bathroom, on the wall under the window next to the sink; b. Older Toddler room: Wall next to the changing table.
3. In the Young Toddler room pieces of toy plastic blocks and other small toys were found scattered across the floor, posing a trip hazard to the children.
4. The flooring in the Young Toddler's room had food crumbs and dirt over the entire area where the three tables are located, making the floor dirty.
5. The home living furniture that included the oven had a large square opening, posing a head entrapment hazard for the children.
Plan of Correction: Cleaned. Rugs cleaned. Painted. Toys put away, little toys thrown out. Floor cleaned and furniture fixed.
