Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on May 10th, 2024, from 9:55 am - 10:30 am. At the time of entrance, 100 children were in care with 21 staff members present. The inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 5 staff records. Children were observed during circle time, engaged in group singing, reading books, and involved in a Mother's Day breakfast. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, the center was not maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition.

Evidence:
1. In the Uranus classroom, the valance from the blinds was laying on the floor behind the kitchen equipment with a sharp edge accessible to children.
2. In both the Pluto & Mars classrooms, there were multiple cords accessible to children, causing a trip hazard in the play area.
3. in the Mars classroom, there was a rug on the floor that was ripped, causing a trip hazard in the play area.
Plan of Correction: The valance will be removed, and the cords will be locked/out of reach of children.

Based on observation, hazardous materials were not kept in a locked place to prevent access from children.

Evidence:
An aerosol air freshener was observed on top of a half wall in the Pluto/Mars bathroom.
Plan of Correction: The air freshener will be locked/out of reach of children.

Based on record review, the center did not maintain a record of the dates of the practice evacuation drills.

Evidence:
The last evacuation drill that was documented was in December of 2023.
Plan of Correction: WE will properly document drills immediately after they occur.
