Inspector Notes

Today an unannounced Monitoring Inspection took place between the hours of 9:15am and 10:45am. There were 2 classrooms observed with a total of 20 children with 4 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed transitioning to play outside, doing toddler yoga, singing and dancing and other organized activities. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. Violations were found during today?s inspection and can be viewed on the Violation Notice.

Based on record review and interview, the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course (preservice training) was not completed by each employee within 90 calendar days of employment.
Evidence: Staff #1 and Staff #2's records did not contain documentation of completing the Virginia Preservice training. Staff #3 confirmed that the training was not completed.

Based on observation, requirements for diaper ointments and creams were not met.
Evidence: Three tubes of diaper creams were observed in the toddler classroom without names to identify the owners.

Standard 8VAC20-780-80-A
Based on interview the center did not maintain a written record of daily attendance for each group of children.
Evidence: When asked for the attendance of the toddler class, Staff #3 stated there is one master attendance sheet with all the children's names. During the inspection, the preschool classroom was outside on the playground and the preschool teachers had the attendance list. There was no attendance available for the toddler class.
