Inspector Notes

An unannounced inspection was conducted 5/5/2022.
A total of 31 children were present, youngest in care is eight months, with six staff.
Three classes was outside on the playground upon arrival. Lunch, nap time, hand washing, children and staff records were reviewed.
Areas of noncompliance are identified on the violation notice.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observations the center failed to
ensure that equipment outside was maintained
in a safe condition.
Evidence:
The area on the playground located beside the
infant/toddler play area had a basketball goal
that had been disassembled. The pole was
laying on the ground with the end exposed. If
ran into and walked up against the sharp edge
could scrap or cut a child.
Plan of Correction: The basketball goal was removed from the
playground.
Standard 8VAC20-780-330-B
Based on observation and interviews the center
failed to have resilient surfacing under playground
equipment with moving parts or climbing
apparatus.
Evidence:
Located on the infant/toddler playground was a
Little Tykes Hide & Seek Climber and Swing. This
piece of play equipment was placed on the concrete
that had outdoor carpeting, there was no
resilient surfacing. The piece of equipment was
placed close to the fence.
Plan of Correction: The climber and swing was removed from
the playground area.
