Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was conducted on March 20, 2023. The inspector arrived at 10AM and departed at approximately 11:45am. There were 8 children and 3 staff members present. A sample size of 9 records were reviewed which included four children?s records and five staff records. The Inspectors observed staff and children?s interactions throughout the inspection. Children were observed during free play, snack, handwashing, tummy time, bottle feeding and spoon feeding for infants, and group activity. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented. The violation is listed on the violation notice issued to the center and was reviewed with the program director/owner at the exit interview.

Based on record review and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that for staff hired after March 1, 1996, documentation that two or more references as to character and reputation as well as competency were checked before employment.
Evidence:
1. The record for Staff #2 (date of hire March 10, 2023) only had one reference check completed before employment when two or more references are required.
2. Staff #1, Director, confirmed that Staff #2 had one reference check completed when two or more references before employment are required.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff #1 will obtain the additional reference for Staff #2 and moving forward, two or more reference checks will be completed with all new hires before employment.
