Inspector Notes

A subsidy inspection was conducted on August 30, 2023 from 10:40am to approximately 12:15pm. At the time of arrival there were fifteen children in care and five staff members. Staff and children interactions were observed during the entire inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. The violations are listed on the violation notice issued to the center and were reviewed with the site director at the exit interview.

Standard 8VAC20-790-600-D-1
Based on record review and interview, it was determined that the vendor did not ensure that all caregivers shall have within 90 days of employment or 90 days from subsidy vendor approval: 1. Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) appropriate to the ages of children in care.
Evidence:
1. Staff #2 did not have a current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) appropriate to the ages of children in care.
2. Staff #1 confirmed that Staff #2 does not have a certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) appropriate to the ages of children in care.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The center will ensure that Staff #2 will obtain CPR training. Moving forward, all new staff will have their CPR certification prior to 90 days of employment.
Standard 8VAC20-790-770-A-1
Based on record review and interview, it was determined that the vendor did not ensure that the administration of prescription medication is administered by a staff member that meets the requirements of 8VAC20-790-600 I and J.
Evidence:
1. On 8/29/2023, Child #1 was administered emergency medication by Staff #3 who is not Medication Administration Training (MAT) trained and does not meet the requirement of 8VAC20-790-600 I and J.
2. Staff #1, Director, confirmed that Staff #3 is not MAT trained and administered Child #1 emergency medication.
3. Staff #1 confirmed that there are no staff members in the center that meet the requirements to administer prescription emergency medication.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Information regarding MAT training was provided by the inspector and two staff members will be training to administer emergency medication. Once trained and certified, the information will be provided to the inspector.
