Inspector Notes
A subsidy inspection was conducted on July 3, 2024. The inspection began at 10am and ended at 12:15pm. A religious exempt code compliance inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection; the two inspections combined cover all subsidy health and safety requirements. This inspection included document review, tour of the facility, interviews, and observations. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Violations
3Standard 8VAC20-790-630-A
Areas and equipment of the center shall be maintained in a safe and operable condition. The portable speaker in the toddler room is placed on a plastic shelf that is unstable. Children were observed playing very close to the speaker during the time of the inspection. The speaker poses as a tipping and injury hazard to the children in care.
Plan of Correction: The speaker was removed during the time of the inspection and will not be placed on the shelf.
Standard 8VAC20-790-640-A
Hazardous substances such as cleaning materials shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. The infant room had three bottles of disinfectant unlocked and the children?s bathroom had a bottle of air freshener on the counter all with the warning label ?Keep out of reach of children.?
Plan of Correction: During the time of the inspection, the disinfectant bottles and air refreshener were locked. Staff was reminded that all hazardous substances need to be locked.
Standard 8VAC20-790-810-C-1
When food is brought from home, the food container shall be clearly labeled in a way that identifies the owner. 9 of the 10 lunch boxes did not label the child?s name on them.
Plan of Correction: The center will have parents label the children?s lunch boxes.
