Inspector Notes

A unannounced complaint inspection was conducted on September 9, 2022 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm om response to a complaint received by the licensing office. After interviewing staff and reviewing documents and all available facts, it was determined that the complaint allegation was valid. Standard 8VAC20-780-40-E
Based on observation, review of the Parent Handbook and the menu's created by the center and a discussion with the Assistant Director, the center failed to ensure that the operational responsibilities of the licensee shall ensure that the center's activities, services and facilities are maintained in compliance with these standards, the center's own policies and procedures that are required by these standards and the terms of the current license issued by the department.

Evidence:
The Parent Handbook states that " In accordance with the State of Virginia's Food Guide, morning breakfast and afternoon snack will be provided during the day, in addition to a nutritious lunch." Based on the menu and substitutions, on 9/2/2022 and 9/6/2022, the lunch served did not met the requirements of a nutritious meal.
Plan of Correction: Parent handbook has been updated to reflect morning snack rather than breakfast.
Standard 8VAC20-780-560-F
1. Based on review of menu's and a discussion with the Assistant Director, the center failed to ensure that when centers choose to provide meals or snacks, the following shall apply - that the centers shall follow the most recent, age appropriate nutritional requirements of the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the united States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

2. Based on discussion with the Assistant Director and observation, the center failed to ensure that menu listing foods to be served fore meals and snacks during the current one week period shall list any substituted food.

1. Evidence:
Menu's verify that lunch meals served on 09/02/2022 and 09/06/2022 do not meet the most recent age-appropriate nutritional requirements of the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
2. Evidence:
Assistant Director stated that she did not up-date menu's to reflect substitutions.
Plan of Correction: The menu has been adjusted per recommendation and has been approved by Arlington Health Department on 09/16/2022.
Standard 8VAC20-780-570-E
Based on observation the center failed to ensure that prepared infant formula shall be refrigerated, dated and labeled with the child's name.

Evidence:
Bottle in refrigerator #1 contained 2 bottles with children's name, but were not dated and
5 Sippy cups with formula or milk had children's names but were not dated.
Plan of Correction: Retrain teachers to ensure all containers from home will be labeled with name and date.
