Inspector Notes

A renewal inspection was conducted on 1/19/23 from 10:40am until 12:00pm. At the time of the inspection, there were 10 children in care with 3 staff present. A sample of 5 children's records and 5 staff records were reviewed. Children were observed participating in morning learning activities, eating lunch and resting quietly during nap time. Lunch service, handwashing and restroom procedures were also observed. First aid and emergency supplies, the emergency preparedness plan, documentation of emergency practice drills, transportation and required center postings were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law. One violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the program and discussed with the center director during the exit interview.

Violations

1
Standard 8VAC20-780-550-H
Based on interview and a review of the center's practice drill log, the center did not ensure that a record of the dates of the practice drills are maintained for one year.

Evidence:
1. There was no documentation of the center's emergency practice drills for the year 2022.
2. The center director confirmed that there was no documentation of emergency practice drills for the year 2022.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Emergency practice drills were completed and documented each month for 2022; however, they were documented on a drill log that had been laminated and erased at the end of 2022. Going forward, the center will ensure that emergency drill logs are kept on record at the center for one year.
