Inspector Notes

This Subsidy Health and Safety Inspection (SHSI) was initiated by licensing staff and concluded on 07/07/2023, between the hours of 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. There were 7 children present (18 points), with 2 caregivers supervising. A licensing inspection was also conducted on this date. Both inspections combined cover subsidy health and safety regulations. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards were reviewed during this supplemental inspection.

Information gathered during the inspection determined (2) non-compliances with the applicable standards. Violations were documented on the Violation Notice issued to the home.

Standard 8VAC20-790-250-B
Based on review, 1 of 2 staff files indicated that within the first 90 days of employment a caregiver did not complete the Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff sponsored by the Department of Education (10 hours).

Evidence -
1. On the date of inspection (07/07/2023), a certificate of completion for the VA Preservice Training was not available for Staff #2.
2. The start date for Staff #2 was listed as 03/04/2023.
Plan of Correction: The Provider stated that Staff #2 shall complete this training over the next couple of weeks.

Based on review and interview, lockdown procedures were not practiced at least annually.

Evidence -
1. On the date of inspection (07/07/2023), a lockdown drill was not recorded on the posted drill log.
2. The Provider stated (during an interview conducted on the date of inspection) that a lockdown drill has not been conducted within the past year.
Plan of Correction: Lockdown drills will be conducted on an annual basis.
