Inspector Notes

A code compliance inspection was conducted on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. The inspection was initiated at 9:45am and concluded at approximately 11:05am. There were 8 children present with one staff and one volunteer supervising. Upon arrival, the children were observed in their designated classroom. The children were observed during a craft activity and interacting with one another. The staff were also observed having positive interactions with the children. All areas of the facility including classrooms, hallways, outdoor play area, and bathrooms were inspected. One staff record, five volunteers' background checks, and five children's records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations

1
Standard 22.1-289.031-A-8
Based on a review of one staff record and interview, it was determined that the provider did not ensure that there is a person trained and certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) present at the child day center whenever children are present or at any other location in which children attending the child day center are present.

Evidence: 1) The first aid and CPR certification in the record of Staff #1 expired on 12/07/2021.
2) During interview, management and Staff #1 confirmed that there were no staff present during the inspection with a current certification in first aid and CPR.
Plan of Correction: Staff #1 will obtain an updated certification in first aid and CPR. In the future, there will always be a staff member present with current first aid and CPR.
