Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was initiated on and concluded on 9/26/2023. There were 26 children, 4 to 10 years old, present with 2 staff supervising and a Program Director. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. The program was relocated to the library due to a school event taking place in the gymnasium. Children were observed playing table top games, having an afternoon snack, and playing a staff led gross motor activity. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed. The inspection started at 4:45 pm and concluded at 6:15 pm.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Based on a review of staff records and interview, the licensee did not ensure that all staff complete the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course within 90 calendar days of employment.
Evidence:
Five staff records were reviewed.
The record for staff #3 whose date of employment was 12/5/2022, did not contain documentation of the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course.
The program director confirmed that this documentation was not in the record.
Plan of Correction: Staff #3 will complete the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course within 30 days and a copy of the documentation will be placed in the staff record.
