Inspector Notes

Thank you for your assistance during this unannounced monitoring inspection. This on-site visit was conducted on June 28, 2022 from 10:10 am through 12:10 pm. Upon arrival, there were 63 children ranging in ages from 16 months through 51 with 12 staff supervising. Five children records and six staff records were reviewed and updated. No medication is being administered at this time.

Areas observed were: outside play, hand washing/bathroom procedures, craft activity, story-time, transition, lunch and nap. The center is well equipped with a variety of age/stage materials for the children in care.

Standard 8VAC20-780-330-B
Based on observation the center failed to have the required resilient surfacing under two slides on the large outdoor plays structure.

Evidence:
1. Pea gravel was measured at the base of both slides.
2. Pea gravel measured 2 inches at the bottom of both slides.
3. The director confirmed resilient surfacing was not at the required 9 inches.
Plan of Correction: Pea gravel will be raked and measured to ensure compliance with the standard.
Standard 8VAC20-780-520-A
Based on observation, the center had one bottle of sunscreen that had expired.

Evidence:
1. Four sunscreen bottles were reviewed.
2. One bottle of Babygancis Sunscreen was observed with an expiration of 2/2022.
3. The director confirmed the sunscreen had expired.
Plan of Correction: The sunscreen will be returned to the parent. Staff will review all over the counter products for their expiration that are brought from home.
