Inspector Notes

An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was conducted on 9/27/2024. The on-site inspection began at 10:30am and ended at 12:10pm. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. There were 5 children present and 3 caregivers; the point total was 14. The inspector reviewed 3 children?s records and 6 caregiver/household member(s) records. This inspection included document review, interviews, observations, and a tour of the facility.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-800-730-D
Medication shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Household prescription and over-the-counter medication was found in two unlocked drawers in the kitchen, making them accessible to children.
Plan of Correction: I will put the medication out of reach of children and install child proof latches on the kitchen drawers.
Standard 8VAC20-800-830-A
The emergency evacuation procedures shall be practiced monthly will all caregivers and children in care during all shifts that children are in care.

An evacuation drill was not conducted in March or June of the current year.
Plan of Correction: I will practice evacuation drill every month from now on.
Standard 8VAC20-800-90-A
Before a child may attend the family day home, the provider shall obtain documentation that the child has been adequately immunized according to the requirements of the Code of Virginia and applicable State Board of Health regulations.

Child #1 had been in attendance for approximately two months before a complete immunization record was obtained.
Plan of Correction: I will ask the parent for the immunization record today.
