Inspector Notes

The inspection was conducted by licensing staff using both a virtual component and in person protocols. Documents review, interviews and a tour of the program were conducted

A renewal inspection was initiated on 11/8/21 and concluded on 11/15/21.
There were 8 children with 1 staff present at the beginning of the in person inspection component on 11/15/21. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 2 children and two staff files were reviewed.

The information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or laws and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-340-C
Based on observation and interview, it was determined that when the Licensing Inspector arrived at the center, there was only one staff (A) on site supervising 8 napping children. A second staff did not arrive at the center until approximately 10 minutes later.
Plan of Correction: Hiring additional staff and substitutes to cover in times of emergencies such as death in family.

Based on observation, it was determined that sight and sound supervision was not maintained.
Evidence:
The staff on site (Staff A) left the classroom and came to the front door allowing the Licensing Inspector to enter the facility, consequently the staff left 8 children alone in the classroom napping. The children were out of sight and sound supervision until the staff returned to the classroom approximately one minute later.
Plan of Correction: Hiring of additional staff to cover when there is an emergency . Will also correct sight and sound supervision.
