Inspector Notes

An unannounced on-site renewal inspection was conducted on 11/21/2023. There were 13 children, ages 8 months-3 years, and 6 staff members present during the inspection. The inspector observed the following: free choice activities, lunch and start of nap. A total of 4 children?s records and 3 staff records, were reviewed. inspector arrived at 9:55 AM and departed at 12 PM.

Standard 8VAC20-780-240-A
Based on review of staff?s records, the center failed to ensure that the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course shall be completed within 90 calendar days of employment.

Evidence:

Staff # 2 was hired on 02/27/2023 the VDOE sponsored orientation training was not completed with the required 90 days. The training was completed June 2023.
Plan of Correction: The VDOE sponsored training will be completed for all staff within the required 90 days.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all chemicals were locked using a
safe locking method that prevents access by
children.

Evidence:

In the kitchen sitting on a shelf with the microwave and the cabinet under the sink were unlocked. The kitchen was not locked, and chemicals were not accessible to the children.
Plan of Correction: The administration will ensure that all chemicals are locked even though children are not allowed in the kitchen.
Standard 8VAC20-780-570-H
Based on observation of infant room, the center failed to ensure that Prepared baby food not consumed during that feeding by an infant may be used by that same infant later in the same day, provided that the food is not served out of the baby jar and is dated and stored in the refrigerator; otherwise, it shall be discarded or returned to the parent at the end of the day.

Evidence:

Observed five made containers of pureed baby food that were not sealed. The dates on the container stated use between 11/15-11/21. The baby food when not sealed would have to be used the day it is pureed.
Plan of Correction: The staff and director will make sure that all food is used the day it is pureed. All food not used on the day it is made will be discarded.
