Inspector Notes
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 11/28/2023 at 12:00 p.m. and ending at 2:15 p.m. with the director. There were 17 children in care, ages 5 months through 4 years old under the care and supervision of 3 staff. Infants were observed sleeping, during diapering and eating. The toddler/two year olds and preschool classes were observed during naptime.
Five children's records and four staff records were reviewed. Emergency drills were up to date.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-40-E
Based on observation, interview with staff and review of documentation, the center failed to ensure compliance with their safe sleep policy for infants. Evidence: In the infant room, an 11 month old infant was observed sleeping in a bent infant seat that reclined the infant back to the floor. Staff interviews revealed that the infant did not like sleeping in a crib and slept like this regularly.
Plan of Correction: Refresh staff in safe sleeping practices. Ensure all staff is practicing safe sleep with the children.
Standard 8VAC20-780-80-A
Based on review of documentation and interview with staff, the center failed to ensure that there was a written record of attendance for each grouping of children that documented arrival and departure. Evidence: There was not a written attendance record for each grouping of children (infants, two year olds and preschool). Staff interviews confirmed that there is one list kept of all children in care.
Plan of Correction: Remind staff to take attendance as children are arriving marking them off as here.
