Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted onsite on 9/15/2023 from 2:58 pm to 3:46 pm, and staff records were reviewed in the main office on 10/4/2023 from 10:15 am to 11:17 am. There were 13 children in care, ages five years to 11 years, in one group under the care of three staff. The Licensing Inspector reviewed three children?s records, four staff records, and other program records. The children were observed doing homework, playing, and having a snack.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-240-A
Based on record review, the center failed to ensure that a staff person hired after 10/13/2021 completed the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course within 90 calendar days of employment.

EVIDENCE:
Staff 2 had a documented employment date of 2/12/2023. The record for staff 2 had no documentation to support that the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course had been completed.
Plan of Correction: Ensure all staff have required training completed in a timely manner.
Standard 8VAC20-780-530-C
Based on observation and record review, the center failed to have at least two staff members with first aid and CPR certification when children were in care.

EVIDENCE:
During the on-site portion of the inspection, children were in care, and upon staff record review, only one staff person on site was certified in first aid and CPR.
Plan of Correction: Ensure all staff are CPR certified and at least 2 are on site.

Based on document review, the center failed to have evacuation drills each month.

EVIDENCE:
The record of fire and evacuation drills shows that no drills were conducted in April or May of 2023.
Plan of Correction: Follow up that staff have completed drills.
