Inspector Notes

An in-person renewal inspection was conducted today. There were 5 children (15 points) present with 2 caregivers. Children were observed playing with a variety of toys and activities. Menu, first aid supplies, emergency supplies and bottles were all in compliance. 2 children's records were reviewed. See Violation Notice for missing items. 3 adult records were reviewed. Standard 8VAC20-800-250-E
Based on direct observation, latex balloons were accessible to children under 5 years of age.
Evidence:
At LI arrival (9:50 AM) there were two (2) latex balloons in the daycare area, accessible to children.
Plan of Correction: Balloons were removed from the daycare area during the inspection. Mylar balloons will be used from now on.
Standard 8VAC20-800-320-A
Based on direct observation, small appliances were not unplugged when not in use.
Evidence:
Small appliances were plugged in, in the kitchen of the home, including a toaster oven, water heater and coffee maker.
Plan of Correction: Appliances were unplugged during the inspection.
Standard 8VAC20-800-540-B
Based on direct observation, an infant walker was in use.
Evidence:
At LI arrival (9:50 AM) an infant was observed seated in a wheeled walker.
Plan of Correction: The infant was removed from the seated walker during the inspection, and the walker removed from the daycare area.

Based on a review of records, child records do not include documentation of all required components.
Evidence:
2 of 2 records did not have all required documentation on file.
*No documentation of the signature and date of viewing the child's Proof of Birth. (Child 1)
*No documentation of the child's first day of attendance. (Child 2)
Plan of Correction: I will have the files corrected tonight.

Based on a review of records, one child record did not contain written documentation of the parent having received all policies and procedures before the first day of attendance.
Evidence:
1 of 2 records reviewed did not have a signature and date on the Information for Parents document. (Child 2)

Based on a review of documentation, emergency evacuation drills have not been practiced monthly.
Evidence:
No emergency evacuation drill was practiced in January 2022.
Plan of Correction: We will practice drills every month.
Standard 8VAC20-800-940-A
Based on direct observation, the refrigerator and freezer were not maintained at 40 degrees and 0 degrees respectively.
Evidence:
During today's inspection, the refrigerator temperature registered 42 degree Fahrenheit . The freezer temperature was 2 degrees Fahrenheit.
Plan of Correction: The temperature was lowered during the inspection to 40 degrees and 0 degrees.

Evidence:
The Initial Inspection paperwork was not posted for parents to see.
