Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:30am-11:50am with the provider on site. There were 10 children (22 points) present with 3 caregivers. A sample of 5 children's files and 3 caregiver/household files were reviewed. The children were observed outside in a flower activity, in whole group music and engaged in various activities. The site was clean, organized and contained an abundant supply of developmentally appropriate materials. Interactions between the children and caregiver were positive. A walk-through of the provider was completed and the physical space, attendance records, drill record, and menu were reviewed. There were no medications on site. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice.

Based on observation, the provider did not ensure potentially poisonous substances were inaccessible to children.

Evidence:
Clorox cleaning wipes were in the diapering area and accessible to children.
Plan of Correction: All potentially poisonous substances will be kept in an area out of reach of children.
Standard 8VAC20-800-320-B
Based on observation, the provider did not ensure child-resistant protective covers were installed on all unused electrical outlets accessible to children under five years of age.

Evidence:
An outlet located in the children's cot room was uncovered.
Plan of Correction: Fixed during inspection.
Standard 8VAC20-800-690-E
Based on observation, the provider did not ensure soiled disposable diapers and wipes shall be disposed of in a leak-proof or plastic-lined storage system that is either foot operated or used in such a way that neither the caregiver's hand nor the soiled diaper or wipe touches the exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.

Evidence:
A diaper pail that required hand operation to lift the lid was being utilized in the diapering area.
Plan of Correction: A new trash can will be purchased that does not require hand operation.
