Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, with an in-person component including phone contacts, virtual documents review, and a tour of the program with observations conducted at the center.
An unannounced non-mandated monitoring inspection was initiated on 01/03/2022 and concluded on 01/12/2022. The director was contacted by phone and a virtual inspection was conducted as well as an in person component on 1/12/2022. There were 23 children present, ranging in ages from 7 months to 4 yrs old, with 5 staff present. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of two child records and two staff records were reviewed.
The inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Based on observation, the center failed to operate the outside in a safe condition.
Evidence:
1. The inspector observed gravel on the area of the playground used for infants and toddlers presenting a choking hazard.
Plan of Correction: The gravel will be removed.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
The center failed to keep hazardous substances locked.
Evidence:
1. The inspector observed a spray bottle labeled bleach in the middle classroom bathroom on a shelf; out of reach of children but unlocked.
Plan of Correction: The site director locked the bottle in the a cabinet during the inspection. The director will send an email to staff reminding them of the standard.
