Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today between the hours of 10:15am through 11:55am. There were a total of 7 children present, ranging in age from 7 months to 3 years (19 points) with the Provider and 1 assistants A total of 4 children?s files, 3 staff files, and 3 household member?s files were reviewed. The children were engaged in age appropriate free choice activities. Positive interactions between caregivers and children were observed during this inspection. A complete inspection of the programming space, children and staff records, emergency drills, menu, attendance, and emergency procedures were completed today. No new staff have been hired since the last inspection. The provider advised there was no medication on site today. All staff on site at the time of inspection are current in CPR/First Aid certification. There was an abundant supply of age appropriate materials and toys and the home was clean and organized, Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Based on record review, the provider did not ensure that parents were provided in writing whether or not there is liability insurance of at least $100,000 per occurrence and $300,000 aggregate in force on the family day home operation as required by ?22.1-289.050 of the Code of Virginia.

Evidence: Child #4 did not have documentation on file that parents were provided in writing whether or not the provider currently holds liability insurance for the family day home.
Plan of Correction: Will have parent sign document.
Standard 8VAC20-800-880
Based on observation and provider interview, the provider is not following the most recent age-appropriate nutritional requirements of a recognized authority such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (UDSA).

Evidence: The posted menu for the week of 8/28/23-9/1/23 was reviewed and discussed with the provider. Breakfast served today was cheerios and milk and there was no fruit or vegetable component. There was no fruit or vegetable component listed on the menu for the remainder of the week. In additional there was no fruit or second vegetable component listed with any of the lunches for this week. The provider stated she was unaware of the requirement for a fruit or vegetable to be served with breakfast or for a fruit and vegetable or two different vegetables to be served with lunch.
Plan of Correction: Immediately put fruit on the menu and add to breakfast of all children and lunch.
