Inspector Notes

An unannounced Monitor Inspection was conducted on March 20, 2024. There were 30 children, ages 2-5 years old, 8 staff and 2 administrative staff present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, personnel, environment and equipment, care of children, preventing the spread of disease, emergencies and nutrition. Licensing Inspector review 5 children's records and 5 staff records. The children were observed during lunch, circle time, center tim0, nap time, and active time on the playground. The inspector arrived for the inspection at 10:15 AM and departed the center at 2:55 PM.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Based on record review, the Licensee failed to ensure staff members annually completes a minimum of 16 hours of training appropriate to the age of children in care.

EVIDENCE:
Staff #3 did not complete 16 hours of annual training in 2023. Staff #3 completed a total of 12 hours of training.

Staff #5 did not complete 16 hours of annual training in 2023. Staff #5 completed a total of 12.5 hours of training.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on inspection, the Licensee failed to maintain areas and equipment of the center in a clean, safe and operable condition.

EVIDENCE:
Licensing Inspector observed in the pre-school classroom on the lower level, an unlocked exit door that does not properly close/latch accessible to the children in care. The exit door leads to an attic storage area containing hazardous equipment and materials.

Based on inspection, the Licensee failed to ensure climbing portions of climbing equipment 36 inches or more is located over required amount of resilient surface.

EVIDENCE:
At least 6 inches of resilient surfacing was not provided underneath and surrounding the outdoor climbing/sliding playground equipment. Licensing Inspector measured 1 inch of rubber mulch.
